IBO Player slow on your Samsung TV? Cache and storage fixes

Posted

Author Thomas Whitfield Spent years rescuing family televisions and now puts the lessons on paper in Leicester. Mutes the telly while troubleshooting, on principle.

When IBO Player starts stuttering, freezing on the channel list or taking a long time to load on a Samsung smart TV, the cause is almost always accumulated cache data or a device running short of internal storage — not a problem with your subscription or your connection. Fix the app's storage first, before you touch anything else.

The steps below go from the quickest fix to the more involved ones. Most viewers find the first or second step resolves things entirely.

Quick answers

Will clearing the cache on my Samsung TV delete my IBO Player subscription?

No. Your subscription is tied to the TV's MAC address and device key, which are held on the server side and are unaffected by anything you do in the TV's storage settings. The app will reconnect to your account automatically the next time you open it.

IBO Player loads slowly only on certain channels. Is that a cache problem?

Not necessarily. If the slowdown is limited to specific channels rather than the whole app, the issue is more likely a stream-quality or network-speed problem on those particular feeds. Clear the cache first, but also check whether the problem appears on channels at different quality settings.

My Samsung TV does not show a Device Care option. Where else can I clear the cache?

On older Samsung models, go to Settings, then Apps, find IBO Player in the list and select Clear Cache from that screen. The Device Care path was introduced in later Tizen versions, but the per-app storage option has been present for longer.

How often should I clear the IBO Player cache?

There is no fixed schedule. If the app feels slow or menus are sluggish, clearing the cache is the first thing to try. Some viewers do it every few weeks as routine maintenance; others go months without needing to.

I have forgotten where to find my IBO Player login details after reinstalling.

Clear the IBO Player cache on a Samsung smart TV

Samsung's Tizen OS keeps a cache for every installed app, and IBO Player builds one up quickly once it starts loading channel artwork and stream data. When that cache grows large, the app slows down noticeably: menus respond late, channel switching hesitates, and the app occasionally freezes on the loading screen.

To clear it:

  1. Press the Home button on the remote and go to Settings (the cog icon).
  2. Select Support, then Device Care.
  3. Choose Manage Storage, find IBO Player in the list and select it.
  4. Tap Clear Cache.

The app will restart fresh the next time you open it. You will not lose your subscription or your login — the MAC address and device key the service uses to identify your TV are stored separately and are not affected by clearing the cache.

If Device Care is not visible in your model's Settings menu, try Settings → Apps → IBO Player → Clear Cache directly. The exact path varies slightly between Samsung TV generations, but the option is always there.

Free up storage when clearing the cache is not enough

Samsung smart TVs ship with a modest amount of internal storage, and that space is shared among every installed app. When the device is nearly full, apps slow down because they cannot write temporary data quickly enough during playback.

Go back to Settings → Support → Device Care → Manage Storage. The screen shows each app alongside how much space it occupies. If the total used figure is high, uninstall any app you no longer use. You do not need to uninstall IBO Player itself — just remove the ones sitting idle.

After freeing space, do a full restart: hold the power button on the remote until the TV switches off completely, wait a moment, then turn it back on. A full power cycle clears the system's RAM as well, which helps independently of storage.

If you are setting up the TV in a new room and thinking about cable management at the same time, a tidy installation makes a real difference to how the set performs long-term.

Check the network before reinstalling

A sluggish app does not always mean an app problem. If the cache is clear, storage is healthy and IBO Player still buffers, test the network path between the TV and the router.

Samsung TVs have a built-in connection test: Settings → General → Network → Network Status. It will tell you whether the TV can reach the internet and roughly how the connection is performing. A TV at the far end of a house, separated from the router by thick walls, often gets a weak Wi-Fi signal even when phones nearby show full bars — phones and televisions use different Wi-Fi antennas.

If moving the router is not practical, a wired connection is worth considering. Run an Ethernet cable from the router to the TV's LAN port and the signal quality issue disappears entirely. Powerline adapters are a reasonable middle ground if running a cable through the wall is not an option.

Reinstall IBO Player as a last resort

If the app remains slow after clearing the cache, freeing storage and ruling out a network problem, a clean reinstall is the final step. Go to Settings → Apps → IBO Player → Delete, confirm the removal, then search for IBO Player in the Samsung app store and install it again.

When you open the freshly installed app, it will display your TV's MAC address and device key on screen. These are the two values your service provider used when setting up your subscription, and they do not change. Your login details — sent by email after you subscribed — do not need to be re-entered manually; the service recognises the TV by that MAC and key pair automatically.

If the app does ask you to type anything on screen, entering long passwords on a TV remote without losing your mind is worth a read before you start.
